Press Releases from the 2019 West Virginia Power season

Julio Rodriguez promoted to High-A Modesto

Picture

The Seattle Mariners' second-best prospect, Julio Rodriguez, was one of the staples of the West Virginia Power in 2019, especially in the second half. After missing two months with an upper body injury, J-Rod came back and dominated the South Atlantic League before earning a promotion to the High-A Modesto Nuts in the middle of August. Julio's numbers were mythical, but his season was all too real.

Outfielder Julio Rodriguez has been promoted to the High-A Modesto Nuts, the Seattle Mariners announced Thursday afternoon. Rodriguez leaves the South Atlantic League after spending the entire season with the West Virginia Power, averaging .293 with 10 homers and 50 RBI in 67 games.

Julio started off incredibly hot with West Virginia, reaching base safely in his first seven games and notching a six-game hitting streak. However, a hairline fracture in his wrist that he suffered after getting hit by a pitch in mid-April derailed the prospect's progress for two months, as he did not return to the team until June 10.

2019 SAL All-Star Game Rosters Unveiled

The 2019 South Atlantic League All-Star Game was hosted in Charleston, West Virginia, the third time in the city's history that the league's Midsummer Classic has been played in The Capital City. The two divisional rosters included some of Minor League Baseball's premier players, including four from West Virginia, with catcher Jake Anchia earning the starting nod. While the game was not as offensive-heavy as one might have expected, the players selected to the rosters made for one of the most highly-anticipated ASGs in history, and it delivered.
